Mona is in her second trimester. She has been craving and eating clay. She is also complaining of Pyrosis, bloating with flatulence and low back pain. She works as a cashier. On your assessment you notice varicose veins on her legs. Come up with a teaching plan for Mona.

The teaching plan for Mona includes

• As the baby growth rate is higher in second trimester, a healthy and balanced diet with additional calories is important.
• The foods which she is craving for can be checked for its nutritive values, if safer can have
• Iron level has to be checked, as pica is commonly caused by low iron and hemoglobin levels.
• Pica has to be managed by having substitute to chew such as chewing gum, candies
• Avoid eating clay, by distracting yourself by engaging in your hobbies
• Eat small and frequent meals to avoid pyrosis
• Avoid oily, fatty, spicy and fried foods
• Avoid gas producing foods like potatoes, Dal etc
• Increase the intake of leafy vegetables
• Avoid constipation by having fibers and mild exercises
• Increase the fluid intake
• Eat dry snacks in between the meals.
• Avoid smoking, caffeinated and carbonated drinks
• Drink water before and after meals, and not in between the meals.
• Don't lie down immediately after the meals.
• Have a walk for 30 minutes after the dinner.
• To manage low back pain , pelvic tilting exercise will help to strengthen abdominal muscles and pelvic muscles
• Take short breaks during the work hours
• Walk for few minutes during this short breaks
• Rotate the hands and shoulders in between
• Adjust the height of chair and your computer to avoid the strain.
• Do not sit with crossed legs
• Elevate and keep the legs while sitting
