You are caring for a patient who has been admitted to the coronary care unit for chest pain unrelieved by nitroglycerin and to rule out myocardial infarction. He is placed on a continuous electrocardiogram (ECG) monitor. What are other tests that can be used to determine whether a Myocardial Infarction (MI) took place? What is the difference between an MI and Congestive Heart Failure?
ANS I . Other tests that can be used to determine whether a Myocardial infarction took place are -
1. Chest X-Ray - It helps to check the size of heart and it's blood vessels and look for fluid in lungs.
2. Echocardiogram-. Sound waves gives images of heart ,helps doctors to see how hearts Chambers and valves are pumping blood through hearts.
3. Blood Tests - Doctors will take sample of blood to check proteins leakage or enzymes.
4. Cardiac CT or MRI -. It can be used to know the extent of damage from heart attack.
5. Coronary Catheterization (Angiogram) -. It makes the arteries visible on X - ray, revealing areas of blockage.
ANS 2. DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MI AND CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURES-.
MI (heart attack ) -. occurs when blood flow to the heart in cut off , it happens suddenly , If it remain without Treatment, the heart muscles begin to die . It is a medical emergency.
The sign of MI are fatigue , shortness of breath , cold sweats , dizziness , irregular heartbeat.
Congestive heart failure -. In this heart cannot pump enough blood to the body , and hearts functioning become weaker , It is not sudden and happens slowly overtime, and the heart continues to work but it may cause Nausea ,loss of appetite , fatigue, shortness of breath , swelling in feet's ,ankles ,legs,abdomen, and veins in neck.
