The second stage of warfare was characterized by the use of the infantry. The infantry was considered as a superior military unit to the use of the chariots. Moreover, the second stage of warfare was characterized by the involvement of city states.

The third stage of warfare involved the use of knights or mounted soldiers in battle. However, it should be noted that there was a significant change in the way warfare was used following the Second World War. It was during and after the war that warfare became highly mechanized. The mechanization was an important advancement of the use of the machine gun that had been introduced earlier during the First World War. Currently, warfare is characterized by extensive use of technology and the desire to achieve specific objectives without necessarily moving armies to the enemy territory and involving various states. Thus, war has become highly technical in nature and there has been the growing need to avoid casualties. It is based on these changes that the current and future nature of war is described as faceless.
