  1. Write a couple of sentences to explain why it is useful to construct a scatterplot graph before using correlation or linear regression to analyze the relationship between two variables. (2 points)

Solutions

Expert Solution

A scatter plot is a graphical method used to determine whether there is a relationship between paired data.i.e. the purpose of a scatter plot is to provide a general idea of the relationship between two variables. I

A scatter plot is very useful when we have to comparing large number of data points without regards to time i.e.no time consuming.

We know the graphical representation is easier to understand than any other method and also to interpert. The finding correlation or liner relation between two variables require calculation which is quite difficult and require time. Also the calculation gives value which is difficult to interpret than scatter plot .

In scatter plot method we easily identify the two variables are positively related or negatively related or no relationship .Also we can easily identify strength of relationship between two variables. i.e. they are strongly related , moderately related or weak relation by just observing the plot.
