The word "community" has originated from the Latin word "communis".
Community means a group of people with families living together in a geographic arccording to WHO "health is a state of complete Physical,mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
ROLE OF THE COMMUNITY IN DISEASE PREVENTION
Every disease has certain poor points.The basic point in controlling disease is to identify these weak point and break the poor links in chain of transmission.
1.Breaking the chain of transmission helps in controlling communicable disease.like water borne diseases typphoid ,cholera,dysentery can be prevented if we carefully and safely use and supply the water and clean the area around...
2.specially improve the general sanitation, nutritional status have an important role in controlling and preventing diseases.
3.Improving quality of life such as cleanliness, lighting, ventilation are also preventive measures.
4.And also community need more education about disease, disease prevention,how it effect of human body..and also we need sex and marriage education.
5.use of specific immunization like vaccination
6.control of qualify and safety of foods druge8and cosmetics etc
ROLE OF THE COMMUNITY IN HEALTH PROMOTION
In November 1986,the first international conference on health promotion was held in Ottawa following the progress made through declarations on primary health care at alma ata.
Health promotion is the process of qualifying people to increase control over and to improve health.
Role in health promotion can be described
Building health public policy
Developing personal skills
Provision of adequate housing and recreation and agreeable working condition
Life style and behavioral changes
Personal hygiene
Adequate nutrition through supplementary nutritional programs,food fortification and prevention of food adulteration
Periodic health screening and selective exami5for example assessing blood pressure.
