Give real-life examples of population, sample, parameter, statistic, categorical data, quantitative data, discrete data, and continuous data.

For example: There are 100 sections of MAT150 in fall 2019 at BMCC, but only 8 sections are Fully Online Classes.

Then, you tell the class the Population: ..., Sample: ..., Quantitative: ... from your sentence(s).

Solutions

Expert Solution

ANSWER:

The Population refers to all elements which are used in studying of problem. The sample is the proportion of the population which is used to estimate population parameter by use of observed value and statistics. The real example of population, Sample, parameter and statistics is given as,

For example, we are studying or analyzing the score of 10th class student at the state level, then the student of 10th class in a country is population. The sample is the student of 10th class of a particular state. The parameter is the population mean and variance of 10th class student scores. The statistics are the sample mean and sample variance of student score in 10th class.

The categorical data are the data which can be divided into categories and it is also known as qualitative data. The quantitative data are data which can be described in numbers which is also discrete data. The continuous data are data which consist of range and infinite value.

In the above example, the categorical data are a score of male and female student of 10th class. The quantitative data are the scores of the student which is in number and it is also discrete data.

The hight of student 10th class are continuous data which consist of infinite value
