For each of the following pairs of hypothetical data
sets, decide which mean is larger and which standard deviation is
larger. Explain your reasoning.
1. price of menu items at a fancy restaurant in Seattle
price of menu items at a fast food restaurant in Seattle
2. Weight of pet cats
Weight of pet dogs
3. Salary of teachers in Seattle
Salary of tech workers in Seattle
1.The mean of menu items in fancy restaurant will have more mean as generally it's items will be having more price than fast food items. Most of the food items of fancy restaurant will be costly than fast food items so on taking average the mean of it will be more
As fancy restaurant contains a large amount of items starting from low to very costly whereas fast food restaurant have small range of items as it is specifically fast food restaurant so standard deviations of fancy restaurant will be more as it's graph will be broadened.
2) weight of pet dogs is on average more than weight of cats so it's mean will be greater .
As weight of dogs will have more variety from small dogs to large ones and cats have small range as compare to them so graph of dogs vs weight will be more broadened and it's standard deviations will be more
3)salary of teachers is approximately fixed or varies by a small amout whereas salary of tech workers vary on a large scale so standard deviations of tech workers will be more and on average of salaries the average of tech workers will be more than that of teachers so mean of them is more .
