The patient also has a diagnosis of hypertension, which is well controlled with low dose HCTZ. Your assessment is viral URI, and you prescribe OTC Sudafed and arrange for a follow-up appointment if symptoms persist. On Monday, Dr. Lopez calls you into office and says, “You shouldn't have given that patient Sudafed. He has high blood pressure.” He complains, “I had to call him and tell him not to take the Sudafed".

1)From the case we can see that due to lack of proper communication the doctor prescribed medicine which cause further problems to patient.

In here poor communication between patient and doctor caused the prescription of medicine which may cause serious problems to patient. The doctor does not have communication with patient so he did not know that the patient have high blood pressure and the prescribed medicine sudafed reacts with it.

And due to poor communication the doctor have to answer to higher authorities. The doctors poor communication skills caused him a remark in his career and also made him to answer to higher authority.

2) Communication skills is necessary to resolve conflict.

To resolve a conflict one must listen and should have patience,open communication,positivity. When there is a conflict one should always be patient and listen without pointing fingers at each other.Doctor should be open minded. Doctor should listen to the higher authority without getting defensive and calmly answer his decisions and should be polite.He should compromise and should remember to be communicative with patients so that he could prescribe the medicine without causing further problems.

He should apologize to the patient and to the authorities and take responsibility for his mistake and he should explain that he will be better at communicating for next time.
