a specialized imaging procedure for examining
thyroid gland located in the front part of the neck.
Thyroid controls body metabolism.
PROCEDURE:-
-Thyroid scans are usually performed on an outpatient basis in the
hospital.
-Before any thyroid scan, radionuclide in the form of a pill,
liquid, or injection is given to patients.
-lie
down on an examination with neck is extended.
-
scanner is used for scanning thyroid, usually from at least three
different angles.
Benefits:-
-thyroid scan provide unique information including details on both
function and anatomic structure of the thyroid gland.
-For many diseases, thyroid scans yield the most useful information
needed to make a diagnosis or to determine appropriate treatment
for example hypothyroidism.
