Solutions

Expert Solution

1. Taking a client or group of children to a movie that I want to see has the following conflicts of interest:

a. The children wanted to see an animated movie while I wanted to see a live-action Tom Hanks movie, but I took them to the Tom Hanks movie of my choice, which I was not supposed to do from an ethical standpoint. My employer had given me instructions to work according to the client's wishes for which I am paid for.

b. I got a free movie ticket for the live-action movie, but the children had to pay for their live-action movie tickets while they had free animation movie tickets. I can imagine their loss and I can see the conflict of interests when I put myself into their shoes.

2. Using the client's credit card to pay my bill had the following conflict of interests:

a. I saved my money but the client lost his/her hard-earned money, which is against my professional code of conduct and is a clear incident of conflict of interests.

b. It was a violation of the code of conduct from my part, which the client couldn't tolerate. Though I was happy about the fact that I could pay off my bill, from the ethical standpoint I lost my value.

3. Telling my client or a family about another Individual Support Worker or Early Childhood Educator looking for work has the following conflict of interests:

a. My employer had assigned this client to me and suggesting another worker to my client would be against my ethics/code of conduct and is against my employer's interest.

4. Leaving work early without prior approval has the following conflict of interests:

a. Leaving work early without prior approval due to some emergency was in my best interest and against the best interest of my employer.

5. Organizing a cooking activity because you and your client/ the children you are caring for enjoy baking with permission does not have any conflict of interest, but without permission, there is conflict of employee's and employer's interest and violation of code of conduct.
