How is nursing a part of solution fighting HIV in South Africa?
South Africa has the biggest HIV epidemic in the world with 7.7 millions people living with HIV.
HIV Prevalence among the general population is high at 20.4% prevalence is even higher among men who have sex with men, transgender women, sex workers and people who inject drugs.
HIV CAN TRANSMITTED FROM ONE PERSON TO ANOTHER THROUGH --------
1. Unprotected vaginal or anal intercourse with an infected person.
2. Injection with contaminated needles.
3. Blood transfusion with infected blood.
THERE ARE SOME SYMPTOMS THAT ARE COMMON WARNING SIGNS OF INFECTION WITH HIV---------
1. Rapid weight loss
2. Dry cough
3. Tuberculosis
4. Pneumonia
5. Memory loss
6. Depression
AS A NURSE ROLE TO HIV --------
1. In sub saharan Africa AIDS is the leading killer and a large reason for the high transmission rate is because of the lack of education provided to youth.
2. Take public education initiative.
3. Health teaching about HIV transmission ----
• Avoid multiple sex.
• Avoid unprotected sex.
• use condom.
• Avoid contaminated needle, infected blood and syringe.
4. Public awareness programme.
