please provide insight and explain

Many experts recommend that people get at least 30 minutes of vigorous exercise three to five times a week; however, actual participation in exercise is less than the amount (a) needed or (b) demanded? Why do most college students get more exercise in summer than in winter? Does need, demand, or a difference in the opportunity cost of time account for the fact that most actors get more exercise than most accountants?

Solutions

Expert Solution

a) Despite the well-known benefits of Physical activity, the practice of this behavior is very low. Approximately 21.9 % of adults in the US participate in light-to-moderate leisure-time Physical activity a minimum of five times per week, and only 11.1 % of adults engage in vigorous leisure-time Physical activity at this same frequency.  Is stress detrimental towards the effort of adopting and maintaining exercise behavior? It has been noted extensively that a dynamic, bi-directional relationship likely exists. People who are less disturbed by stress might simply be more ready to take up exercise training.  Negative affectivity, anxiety, anger, and distress inversely predict exercise behavior.

While some of the very common reasons that can be resposible for why participation is low

  • Not Enough Time

  • No Access

  • No Motivation

  • Not In Shape or too much out of shape that they lose motivation

  • No Energy

  • It’s Boring

  • Family or other things Get in the Way

  • It hurts

  • Lack of Results

  • Too Overwhelming

These are some of the basic but most evident excuses people come up with.

b) Reasons that might be responsible for why college students get more exercise in summer than in winter

  • In winter, people do not exercise much and mobilize themselves much. As a result the metabolic rate tends to be lower.
  • Some people may feel that winter is a time when you put on weight and also increase cholesterol levels. However, Winter is when people have too many high-fat foods which is giving them extra pounds but the body mechanism balances for cholesterol.
  • You would rather stay indoor to keep yourself warm than go out for a stroll or a run for that matter.
  • In summer you eat all sorts of low-calorie and cool foods like salads, fruits which are all light and healthy as well. Also, due to the high temperature, you are sweating most of the time which helps in shedding extra pounds unknowingly.

So it is both the temperature and the food that you eat which is affecting your weight loss process in both the seasons but it can be a bit difficult to follow it in winter hence students get more exercise in summer.

c) Need, demand, or a difference in the opportunity cost of time does account for most actors to get more exercise than most accountants. It indeed is a top priority for an actor to be in a good shape than that of accountant. An actor has to represents himself in front of a camera hence he has to look good and healthy. For certain movie roles actors are required to change their physic so its the DEMAND of the exercise compared to accountants who doesn't have strong need to do so.

Researchers suspect that lack of education may be partly to blame. To investigate, you survey 100 people and ask them about their education level and fruit and vegetable intake. Respondents report having 12.5 years of education and eating 4.5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day, on average. The standard deviations for education and fruit...
