Relationship between health care cost and quality
High prices for medical services are not always indicative of higher quality of care. The recent push for greater transparency in health care has often focused on making prices more accessible and useful to all health care stallholders- consumers, payers, employers etc. There is no consistent relationship between quality measures and prices. But stigma of people regarding this is, the quality of care is better in private sector than in public.
The Quality Improvement Organization ( QIO) Program current improvement initiatives encompass multiple setting of care and align with other national health care quality efforts. QIO s are providing technical health care assistance for reporting data to the cen ters for disease control and prevention's National Healthcare Safety Network and are offering interventions for improving clinical processes and disinection practices. They also are convening statewide learning and action networks that encompass clinical education, improvement collaboratives and peer to-peer assistance. Many QIOs have formed coalitions with their state health departments, infection prevention association, hospital associationand other partners to broaden participation and concentrate resources. They also have aligned their infection prevention work with the partnership for patients through the hospital engagement Networks.
Staffing pattern and quality care
Research examining the relationship between nurse staffing, hospital cost and length of stay is varied. Sufficient no of registered nurses may prevent patient adverse events that cause patients to stay longer than necessary. Patients cost were also reduced with greater RN staffingas RNs have higher knowledgeand skill levels to provide more effective nursing care as well as reduce patient resource consumption. Hospital administrators are encouraged to use high ratios of RNs to non- licensed person to achieve their objectives of quality patient outcomes and cost containment.
