Do you agree that whether or not a physician or a nurse is operating out of a code or covenant model it makes a difference? For example consider a physician or nurse observing a colleague make a mistake that leads to the injury of someone.
Absolutely, it makes a huge difference. I do not agree with that perception where a colleague just watching the other making mistake, in the field of medicine even a small mistake can lead to serious complication for the patient. During the learning phase it is common to make mistakes as many things will be completely new to a learner. But it is quite important to make sure there are no negligence errors in the clinical sector which really is a treat to the patient. If you notice that your college is doing something wrong stop him at that instance and take the initiative to complete the procedure and later explain him what he was doing wrong. For instance for a nurse Intravenous cannulation is considered a tricky procedure as if you notice that your colleague is not pricking on the right vein just as him to handover the cannula and you try to do the procedure. The point to be noted is don’t speak anything in front of the patient as the patient may lose the confidence over the nurse. Allowing any one to do wrong is not acceptable if you personally dislike that person or friend as u are getting a chance to scold him on that incident. More than the personal vengeances the importance has to be given to the patient lying on the bed trusting the health care worker. Stopping something before it gets more complicated is always better.
