Expert Solution

Broadly we can say that most of the flowers has 4 major parts ,they are sepals, petals, stamens and carpels.

1.Sepals-Outer part of flower which protects the inner parts, they are generally leaf like green coloured parts. But it may vary according to the type of plants.Sepals creates bud of flower before emergence and it protects the flowers before opening or in bud stage.Sepals not found in all plants ,some of them are modified to coloured bracts.Set of sepals is called calyx

2.Petals-Brightly coloured, attractive, showy part of a flower which may attract pollinators to the flower.Set of petals is known as corolla. The arrangements of petals also varies according to the plant.petals can be several layered or solid one.

3.Stamens-Stamens are the male part of a flower also known as androecium .Which produces anthers and make it to be available for pollination.Anther is the male part in fertilisation. Number of stamens may vary from few numbers to hundreds.Stamen consists of two main parts

Filament-Long cylindrical tendril part of stamen, which holds the anther

Anther-Present in the top portion of filament in a sac called pollen sac. Each of it produces numerous anthers

4.Carpel- Female part of the flower and known as pistil or gynoecium .It also contains sacs that produces seeds after fertilisation. It consists of stigma and style and ovary

Style-Stock that supports stigma and connect it to ovary

Stigma-It is the receptive tip of the carpel.

  1. Ovary-Enlarged basal part, which contains eggs/ovules ( female part in fertilisation) on which style lies.On development ovary becomes fruit.

These are the major parts of a typical flower, each of them consists of set of different parts and modifications also will be there.

Some other parts,

Receptacles- Part of flower stalk, where the flower is attached.

Ovules- ovules forms the seeds. Each ovary bears one or more ovules, ovules are the eggs or female part in fertilisation.

Placenta-Flattened cushion like structure ,where ovules will be attached.
