Two proteins required for the entry of the novel coronavirus into the body are produced by cells involved in odour detection in the nasal cavity. The virus hijacks two proteins to invade human cells -- the cell surface receptor ACE2 and the protease TMPRSS2.  the cell surface protein ACE2 and the protease TMPRSS2 are expressed in sustentacular cells of the olfactory epithelium.

A survey will be conducted to determine if sense of smell resume back after covid 19 treatment or not. For example:

For India, the survey has been translated into more than 20 regional languages, including Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Bengali, and Urdu.

Some of the questions in the survey, which are open to confirmed or suspect COVID-19 cases, will attempt to gauge the poll takers’ sense of smell, before, during and after recovering from the infection, and whether they have pre-existing medical condition. then, compilation of the data will occur. And then that data will be analysed to confirm if maximum no. of cases regains sense of smell or not.
