Solutions

Expert Solution

Question

1. Two plant derived human product are:

I. Aspirin : this is used as a drug for the treatment of pain in the body, fever and other inflammation condition . This drug is obtained from the plant whose name is Spiraea Ulmaria. This drug belong the family of salicylates that can inhibit the activity of enzyme cyclooxygenase when bind to it. This enzyme is involved in the prostaglandin formation that cause inflammation.

II. Coconut: this is the fruit of the coconut tree. The coconut is used for various purpose by humans. Used in cooking, used as hair-oil, used as an energy drink. The coconut is a three layer fruit in structure whereas each layer provide the specific function to coconut.

2. Xylem and phloem are present in the spongy mesophyll of the leaves. Hence, option d is correct.

3. The light reaction that take place in thylakoid membrane of the chloroplast directly harvests energy from the sun and provide the ingredients for Calvin cycle or dark reaction pulls CO2 from air and makes it a part of a sugar molecule.
