Anxiety is a feeling of worry,nervous,or unease about some thing with an uncertain outcome.A big event or stressful life situations may cause anxiety.Anxiety can causes a range of physical and emotional symptoms like. *faster breathing or shortness of breath ,*Increased or irregular heart rate. *Feeling tired but not able to sleep. *light headedness,head ache,dizziness *Sweating or hot flushes. *Feeling that other people are looking at you. There are different levels of anxiety. 1.Mild anxiety. This type most of us experience on a day to day basis during certain situations. You may have an uneasy feeling in your stomach. 2. Moderate anxiety:Moderate anxiety can mean you place your complete attention on the thing or situation that making you feel anxious.It making you feel more nervous and agitated .It may become severe. 3. Severe anxiety:It is the highest level,when you being able to think rationally and experience severe panic.may you feel afraid and confuse.
Main goal when caring with anxiety is *Identify trigger and try adjust for that trigger or avoiding of trigger.
Many different types of medications are used in the treatment of anxiety disorder. *Anti anxiety drugs -Benzodiazepines for short term anxiety *Anti depressants for long term anxiety. Benzodiazepines are most widely prescribed medications for anxiety,these are effective during panic attacks.Benzodiazepines works by slowing down the nervous system. Common side effects are drowsiness ,dizziness, confusion, headache,trouble concentration.risk of dependency and abuse is high. Antidepressants prescribed for anxiety are Selective serotonin re uptake inhibitors.These are used to treat generalized anxiety disorder (GAD),Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).Common side effects are Fatigue,nausea ,agitation,drowsiness,insomnia.
Mostly we use antidepressants because risk of dependency abuse is less when compared to benzodiazepine.
