13. The incorrect administration of oral medications into central intravenous lines has resulted in deaths. Describe the strategy that has been implemented in hospitals to reduce the risk of medicines being administered by the wrong route
This is the case of medication error which may be resulted due to improper treatment method may be due to the wrong dose or by the selection of wron route. As here the medication is administered intravenously while it was meant for the oral route, and thus it resulted in the toxicity of the medication followed by death. Henceforth its the need of the time to to have the proper periodical training in the hospitals for the nursing staffs to manage such critical medication errors with proper strategies.It is recommended to separately pace the enteral as well as IV tubing so that such errors can be reduced. Furthermore it is advised to make a proper dosage form review as well as route of administration , involving the staffs in series manner in many steps.Then discuss the consequences of such incidences. Hence by increasing the staff knowledge and competency by the periodical real time tranings and their implementation in hospitals can effectively reduce such risk of medicines being administered by the wrong route.
