Trump administration has announced a slew of measures to provide loans to small businesses, and help them retain workers, increase universal testing measures and make funds available to the hospitals. It has also provided tax rebates and expanded unemployment benefits. Provided international assistance. It has also led to the monetary policy reducing interest rates and lowering the cost of capital.
At this current stage, I agree with Trump protectionism as several countries are turning inward and satisfying their own demand scenarios by supplying local products and services, this reduces the chances of the virus spreading further, whereby local communities can continue to trade and serve the local demands. By being protectionist, the country increases the chances of the fight against Covid-19 as there are less chances of people contracting the virus if one focuses on the local economy. The goods and services originating from local industries enhances sustenance of the local economy and helps drive growth nationally.
