CASE 3 The provider visits an 80-year-old patient and asks if anything new has been bothering her. She says she has been having pain from her upper stomach and esophagus every night and gets slightly nauseous. She is Chinese and has been using her specially made peppermint tea to calm her stomach after dinner and before bed. Peppermint herbal tea has been used in her family as long as she can remember to calm the stomach. The provider recognizes that this might be heartburn and acid reflux pain and tells her that peppermint will make it worse and to never drink peppermint or any other kind of tea before bedtime.

1.The suggestion for improvement is to avoid drinking herbal tea to relieve the symptoms

The nurse should do the following

  • Educate the women about the effect of tea at night and encourage to avoid it
  • Encourage to drink warm water if preferring instead of herbal tea
  • Encourage to sleep patient on left lateral position and head elevated to reduce acid reflux
  • Do not encourage to eat anything immediate to bed time because this can interupt the sleep by digestion
  • Encourage her to go for a evening walk to stay active and help in good digestion die to physical activity

2.The nurse educate their patients by one to one communication, providing explanation before  each procedure ,actively involving the patient in caeet

4.A newly diagnosed patient can be explained regarding the following

  • For test:educate to undergo test in case of active sexual life, high risk clients, any infection that does not heal a long time, partner with infection,contact with unknown person.The test may include blood investigation for HIV, HBsAg. Others like syphilis , gonorrhea, chlamydia ,herpes, etc.,Vaginal examination for female and general observation for male.
  • Treatment:Depends upon the cause of infection the treatment is given with antibiotics ,antivirals, antibacterial ,anti fungal ,etc.,

5.Some of the responsibility of an individual if they choose to be active in sexual life are

  • Screen for any infectious disease
  • Use preventative measures to prevent getting infected or cross infecting
  • Inform the partners regarding any infection
  • Get completely treated depending upon the infection before having active sexual life
  • Avoid multiple partners ,unknown partners.
