1.Viruses that are treated by antiviral therapy:
Viruses that cause infection like Human immunodeficiency virus,
Herpes , Hepatitis B and C , and Influenza A and B viruses. The
action of the therapy is inhibition of replication.
2.Education to the client by the nurse about the antiviral
therapy and it's need:
- Teach the client about the drug therapy and it's importance of
completion of the full course of the regimen.
- Advice to avoid sexual intercourse if the client is under
treatment for Genital Herpes as it will not cure the disease.
- Side effects of dizziness or drowsiness may be experienced and
so in such conditions it is better to avoid driving.
- Wearing of gloves as a protective measure while applying
topical antiviral drugs.
3.Complete blood count for antivirals:
- Complete blood count is an essential test to interpret the
presence of infection.
- When there is an increased amount of WBC count, it signifies
the presence of infection.
- It indicates the presence of an immune system disorder or
inflammation.
- The white blood cells destroy the organism causing
infection.
4.If a client has genital herpes, requirement of his partner
:
- Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted infection which causes
infected sores, blisters, and ulcers.
- Avoid sexual intercourse as antiviral therapy will not cure the
disease completely.
- Use protective latex condoms during sexual
intercourseintercourse, which reduces the risk of spreading of
infection.
- Discussion of sexual health to the partner which will lead to
safer sex.
- Avoid multiple sexual partners.
