Identify the major hardware, software, and communications components of Google Glass.
The new Google Glass is very different than googles previous technological developments. This is a wearable device instead of a handheld device, and can capture every moment with a simple voice command. It lets people both experience the moment and capture it. The hardware of the Google Glass, is the glass and frames itself. Everything on the frames and the glass like the input buttons and small screen that pops up on the glass are all considered the hardware of the Google Glass. The software component is the android operating system that the glass runs on. Lastly, the communication components of the Google Glass are the ability to connect to any open wireless network or connect to a hotspot on the user’s phone. It also has the ability to open GPS and detect where the user is and where they need to go with a simple voice command.
What are some of the advantages to using Google Glass and how will they add value to a customer’s life?
One of the biggest advantages to Google Glass is the convince. The added camera and voice commands allow a person to be both in the moment and capture the moment without staring through a screen. Other advantages to the Google Glass is the GPS feature that allows the user to find directions to a destinationwhile having the route constantly in their vision. Google Glass also shows the wearer times of their flights, and lets them post to social media without ever reaching for their phone.
What are the major risks associated with Google Glass?
While the Google Glass has many advantages, there are some risks many people are concerned about. One of these risks is the how the Google Glass can make people human spy’s. With the Google Glass constantly on and available for use, some wonder if what it sees can be stored even if the wearer did not ask for it to be recorded. Another concern many people have, is the effectiveness of multitasking with Google Glass. While the GPS feature can be beneficial to those who are walking to their destination, what kind of obstacles can it cause for those who are driving. Can the constant route in the wearers vison distract them and cause a wreck?
The risk most people are concerned with is the risk of privacy. Since the Google Glass is essentially recording all of the time waiting for the wearers voice command, lawmakers are becoming more concerned because Google has the ability to embed its facial recognition software into the Google Glass. This would allow everyday people to identify strangers on the street by “matching their face to tagged photos on social networks.” Many people have begun to rally against the many privacy risks of the Google Glass and what it could mean for everyday people.
