Should we care about the "hidden cities?" What role would it have on international business?
Many of the hidden cities are slum areas in major towns. Areas are ignored due to their low ranking. Most of the people who stay in these areas live a life of misery. Despite this, hidden cities have great potential to produce the best talents. Hidden cities do not have a common toilet; most people tend to use flying toilets. Foods are not readily available to these people. Anyhow, garbage is dumped in the areas. Such regions would soon cover much of the city and large cities in the country. Hidden cities need a lot of attention. With rural to urban migration rising, the government will find ways to support people living in slum areas.
Cities do not sign international treaties, nor do they have embassies around the world. However, cities will participate in all kinds of discussions, achieve deals and control world politics.
Cities form networks, participate in dialog with peers, promote public diplomacy, exchange best practices and encourage cooperation between international private and public entities. The State Department should tap into this power to further improve American diplomacy, global reputation and influence.
