For the following elements, use the periodic chart and draw the Bohr model, state how many electrons ,protons, neutrons are present, state if the atom is reactive or non-reactive, and how many valence electrons there are.

1.Nitrogen (N)

2.Neon (Ne)

3.Potassium (K)

Solutions

Expert Solution

According to the Bohr's model the negatively charged electrons are moving around the positively charged nucleus.

According to this model number of electrons is equal to number of protons.

First orbit of each element contains only 2 electrons second orbit contains maximum 8 electrons according to formula 2n2 where 'n' is number of of orbit.

1) Now Nitrogen has atomis mass =18

It has atomic number 7

Number of protons = number of electrons= 2+5= 7

number of neutrons = number of mass number - number of protons

= 18-7 =11 neutrons

valence shell elctrons in nitrogen is 5. As 2 elctrons in inner orbit and 5 elctrons in outer orbit.

2 ) Neon (Ne) has mass number 20

Number of protons =number of electrons = 10

hence number of neutrons = 20- 10 = 10

valence electrons in neon = 8

3) Pottassium (2,8,8,1)

It has atmic number 19 atomic mass 39

Number of protons = Number of electrons= 19

Number of neutrons = 39 - 19= 20

Number of valence shell electrons= 1

Potassium is non- reactive, nitrogen is far less reactive and neon is inert hence it's also non reactive.
