The nurse in the ED has been notified that a school bus carrying a high school football team has been involved in a head-on collision with a semi-tractor trailer truck. There are multiple injuries and a possible death. A small community hospital was notified of the accident and told to expect 35 victims.
There are multiple players with moderate to severe injuries. Three ambulances are at the scene.
The driver of the tractor trailer truck was pronounced dead at the scene. Several of the football team members saw the driver dismembered as the truck hit the bus, and were unable to move from the scene until someone pulled them away.
The small local emergency department also should initiate its disaster plan. A disaster plan is a systematic procedure that clearly identifies the what to do, where, when, and how to the response before and time of disaster. A head-on collision is a kind of disaster or accident in which many people are injured or dead. In this scenario, there is many injuries and death. The expected number is 35, it can be increased also. So there is a need to initiate disaster management in the local emergency department for better treatment and prevention from lack of bed.
the actions that can be taken to help cope up with the accidents are
- remove the people from the accident area to a safer palace
- provide emergency care, this will create a sense of safeness.
- Counseling can be done to identify the problem of a person.
- family or loved one involved in the treatment process
- Provide adequate rest
- group therapy can be done by making the same person having equal nurse.
- provide diversiontal therapy like play, etc.
