Can you identify why decreased post-op pain across the patient population can also lead to a reduction in hospital readmissions?
post Operative pain is the pain felt by patients after operation all over the body like restlessness, fatigue etc. Inadequate post-op pain control can lead to poor recovery, increase in complications which lead to increase in readmission in hospital.
Post-op readmission are very common which increase costs, to avoid these problem the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid introduce Hospital Readmission Reduction Program to avoid readmission.
This helps the hospitals to undertake proper post-op management like proper evaluation and planning, pain control plan , proper staffing, educating and making patient and their family aware of complications and proper medication , reducing side effects to minimum.
Post-op pain trajectories identify population at the risk for 30 day readmission, by addressing pain control expectations before discharge may help to reduce readmission.
Thus, Decreased post-op pain Control across the patient can reduce readmission in hospital.
