Sickle cell anemia is an inherited blood disoreder in which the normal red blood cells are replaced by abnormal red blood cells. Mainly the abnormality occur in the shape of the red blood cells. Normally the red blood cells are biconcave shape and in case of sickle cell disorder the shape of RBC is like a sickle, and due to those shape there is functional and structural changes occur. Functionally the blood cell cannot carry enough amount of oxygen as a normal cell and the destruction of sickle cells occur fastly which means the lifespan of RBC is less.
The pain is common manifestation of the sickle cell anemis it is due to the blockage of cells in the smaller capillaries. This is due to the change in the shape, the sickle shape of red blood cells perevent the movement of blood through the capillaries especially through narrow capillaries. They may stick and block the passage, this will lead to experience of pain.
