Disaster preparedness refers to measures taken to prepare for and reduce the effects of disasters. The main aim or goal of the disaster preparedness is to lessen the impact or effects of disasters on vulnerable populations by making ready an organization to act and to design a coordinated plan without the wastage of resources, time and effort,

There are mainly 4 phases of disasters. They are; mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.

The mitigation phase includes; actions taken to prevent or reduce the cause, impact, and consequences of the disasters.

The preparedness phase includes; planning, training, and educational activities for events that cannot be mitigated.

The response phase occurs in the immediate aftermath of a disaster.

The recovery phase has restoration efforts with regular operations and activities.

In the disaster preparedness phase, proper planning to be done with the authorities and the basic supplies should be made readily available.

In order to make the team effective certain training should be given regrding the various phases andhow to manage ecah phases.
