Management and leadership are almost same. The best way to
improve the skills of each is to understand the terms in different
aspects and where they stand in public health context.
Management:
A person who is responsible for foreseeing the resources like
staff, equipment, planning, implementing the healthcare services
and building relationships with other providers and public is a
manager. Some of the competencies of management are program
planning, monitoring, evaluation, budget management, recruiting,
managing employees, day to day planning and supervision.
Leadership:
They are action oriented and inspires other people to do some work.
Some of the leadership competencies are creating an ethical
culture, policies, vision, values, inspiring, motivating
people.
Managers do things right and leaders do the right things. Leaders
set the direction for the organisation and managers implement it. A
person can be a manager and a leader.
