Case Study #2
Don Briggs, RN, is the case manager for a rehabilitation center that is part of a large hospital system that also owns a home health agency, a hospital, an outpatient surgery center, and a network of primary care clinics. The executives of the hospital system have committed to putting an electronic health record (EHR) system in place within the next 3 years. Their vision is to have a system in which patient information can be shared across all of the various units and facilities within the hospital system. Don has been asked to serve on the committee to begin the initial planning phase for the EHR, and he is very excited about this assignment and the potential for the EHR. Don experiences frustration on a daily basis when trying to find information for patients who are being admitted from other sites within the system or trying to coordinate the transfer of information for patients who are being discharged. He hopes the new EHR system will allow the patient's entire record of health information and health care to be accessible from anywhere within the hospital system.
1. (b) Give them immediate access to patient information . Correct.
(C) efficiency in charting will be increased. Correct.
Both options are important in EHR accessibility. The EHR gives nurse and patient to easy access of information and it will improve efficiency in charting.
(a) and (d) are not correct . Because EHR of a patient can access different medical care with in a hospital but not to access the EHR from different hospitals. And identification is based on medical ID system.
2. (b) Quality and safety of patient care will improve. Correct ,because the EHR improve the patient care than the normal
(a) is wrong because the EHR system can reduce the working hours of nurses . And improve the nurse patient relationship by interacting with the patient .
(C) and (d) it's not correct . Because sometimes the EHR system have problem with data migration but it can not give any error in medication system .
3. (a) and (c ) is correct. The EHR System obeys based on HIPAA regulations. It will help to give specific protection and safeguard to EHR records
And also a privacy officer for EHR to find which one access the patient data from EHR system.
(b) and (d) is wrong the OSHA regulations ensure the employees work in a safe and healthful environment.
And EHR does not have a security officer. It have privacy officer.
