Nursing considerations for doxorubicin include:
a. verifying pulmonary function prior to initiation of therapy
b. administering through a 0.2 micron filter
c. calculating lifetime cumulative dose
d. checking creatinine level prior to administation
Answer. Option A. Verifying pulmonary function prior to initiation of therapy
Option A is correct as a serious and common side efdect of administration of doxorubicin is pulmonary side effects such as heart damage or decrease in the pumping ability of the heart. So prior to administration chemotherapeutic drug like doxorubicin we have to make sure that the pulmonary function and helath of the patient's system should be checked. Tests such as heart function or ECHO cardio tests are performed and the risk factors such as toxicity, age, heart function towards doxorubicin is taken into nursing consideration with doxorubicin
Option B is incorrect as filter size is irrelevant as administration of doxorubicin must depend on pulmonary function tests and based on that the needle and filter size is determined.
Option C is incorrect as lifetime cumulative dose is calculated to reduce the toxicity and maximum administration dose but first the pulmonary function as nursing consideration is taken.
Option D is incorrect as pulmonary function is critical as compared to creatinine clearance and levels of the body of the patient
