A placebo is anything that seems to a real medical treatment but it isn't. It is a substance or treatment with no active therapeutic effect but deceives the patient into thinking that there is some real medical treatment.
A placebo effect is a beneficial effect produced by a placebo treatment, which can’t be attributed to the properties of the placebo itself, rather it is due to the patient's belief in that treatment.
