Compare the lives of working and middle-class women. How did the Triangle Shirtwaist
Factory tragedy brings these groups together and serves as a catalyst for change?
The working and middle-class women had similarities and differences that resulted from the working relations and the need to alleviate standards in the active places. Both groups faced challenges that aligned with their working environments. The working class enjoyed respectably that was accorded a long-time reputation. Simultaneously, leisure-class women were prone to demonstrations and public parades that were assumed to result in mass violation of ladylike norms. The working class faced challenges in working areas and frequently engaged in strikes to realize better opportunities. The two groups had similar ambitions since leisure-class allies supported the working class's grievances and extreme instances joined in demonstrations experienced in New York City and Washington DC.
Triangle Shirtwaist Company fire championed the demonstrations of working women, which was backed up by leisure-class allies. Both groups aimed at realizing better working conditions, and both participated in agitations for better terms. The group agitations were based on the political and economic rights of working girls. The groups mobilized hundreds of women involved in marching on the streets, carrying banners and press facilitated the news spread about the workers. Triangle Company mobilized male supporters and women of all classes to ensure granting of women voting rights and common women suffrage. The efforts by the organization resulted in the suffrage parade held in Washington DC in March 1913. This acted as the first national suffrage parade and first-ever demonstrations held in the nation's capital relating to any issue. Women were portrayed as mothers, workers, and women and, therefore, sought peace, justice, hope, liberty, and charity through cooperation and negotiations through Triangle Shirtwaist Company.
