    c.

    The image is upside down

    d.

    The image size is reduced

Solutions

Expert Solution

The answer is C i.e The image will be upside-down. We know that magnification in mirror is given by m=-v/u,

Where v is the image distance and u in the object distance. So whenever we put object in front of any mirror the image which is inverted will always result in a negative magnification.

Similarly when we take lens and draw all the ray diagrams of the possibile cases we will see that the inverted image only gives a negative magnification as in lens Magnification is given by m=v/u.

So when the u is negative the v will be in right hand side of the lens due to which magnification becomes negative.

Similarly for exception cases in which virtual image is formed will automatically result in positive magnification and errect image hence we conclude that if an image is formed upside-down its magnification will be negative whether it is a mirror or a lens. Which is our required answer.
