Simmilarities between all transfer activities are -Transfer activities are used to help patient in doing daily activities,movement of body in assistance of health care provide to reduce chances of injury and also to maintain the self esteem of patient.It is assisted way to help client in movable activities.
To maintain safety of the patient and looking at the need of equipments like wheelchair or transfer pole.
It makes a patient capable of doing daily activities with the help of others.
In dependent transfer activities assistance is required even transfering the patient from bed to chair or from chair to another place like toilet.
In modified independence patient requires an assistive device or aid for transfer.
Whereas in assisted transfer activity patient require cueing but no physical assistance to complete the activity.
2.Counting to three before trying to transfer the patient may he helpful.Clear and short directions before and during the transfer is important. Because giving the command and instructions reduce the chances of injury .
Verablise any postural help from the patient during the transfering procedure.
Communicate timing of the transfer.Count to three then pull the patient's hips and buttocks towards you,then gently move them into his or her chair.Ask the patient to move his body if possible like moving hips up and down during transfer.
3)Techniques of transfering-
Keep everything ready that will be required before and during the transfer to avoid problem at the last moment.
Give clear and short directions before and during transfer.
Demonstarte the patient by which way you are going to transfer the patient.Show him the technique and ask him for any help if he can do that time.
Decide the timings of transfer alongwith patient because it will help both mutually and shift the patient on the count of three.Cound three loudly to make understand the patient.
Use a gait belt at all times or use patients pants or belt if gait belt is not available.
Use proper body mechanics-stand closely to the patient in standing position.
Stay away from patient's approach to hold you from your neck.
Using your leg muscles more (like bearing the weight on legs) instead of back muscles as much as possible because it will help to avoid extra stress on your spine.
Dont keep your body very stiff or very loose.Stand with neutral spine (not arched or curved forwards or backwards)
Place feet wide in line with your shoulders.
