Mathematical modeling

A population of squirrels living in a forest with a carrying capacity of 2600.(assume logistics growth with constant k=0.9yr)

(a)find a formula for the squirrels population p(t) assuming an initial population of 650 squirrels.

(b)how long will it take for the squirrels population to double?

Solutions

Expert Solution

(a) p(t)=(pke^(rt))/((k-p)+pe^(rt))

Where p -is the initial population

            k -carrying capacity

            r -growth rate

So , we get

      (650*2600e^(0.9t))/((2600-650)+650e^(0.9t))

=(2600e^(0.9t))/(3+e^(0.9t))

(b) t=1/rln(k-p)/p

     =1/0.9ln(2600-650)/650

     =1/0.9ln3

     =1.2207

(a)=(2600e^(0.9t))/(3+e^(0.9t))

(b)=1.2207

Mathematical modeling is a process whereby a real world problem or situation is described in mathematical language. Research and share a real world problem, situation, phenomenon, or event that can be modeled using a linear equation or inequality. Post the mathematical model describing your application if available.

Students will be asked to formulate, define, and interpret mathematical modeling (particularly ordinary differential equation) which involves real engineering applications and related to their majoring (E.g. Newton’s law cooling/warming, mixture problem, radioactive decay, spring-mass system, series circuit, deflection of the beam, etc.).. The selected model should be solved analytically using any methods that have been learnt in the mathematic lecture. just give me an example with related topic and how to solve it using math

This analysis compares the model in the text that has the level of shipments as the response to a model that uses the change in the shipments as the response. (These data are monthly, based on the seasonally adjusted data from 2002 through 2009.) Modeling changes is often more interesting than modeling levels. After all, we often care more about how the future differs from the present than anything else. This scatterplot and table summarize the ft of a regression...
