According to Erickson psychosocial development theory School aged children central task is the development of sense of industry versus inferiority. School aged child start to trust others and also develops sense of autonomy or independence and take up the initiative to do the work. Fantasy play at preschool age will be replaced with work (crafts, chores, hobbies) at school age. School age child enjoys doing the new tasks and they get satisfaction for the reward they receive for their work. Hence we should always give the school aged children with small chores where they get satisfaction failure to achieve this stage leads to inferiority.

It’s always challenging to communicate with the paediatric clients we must not start with direct question with the child instead we should build the relationship, create a comfortable environment, get into to their level and ask the child how the things were.

b. Encourage the parents to touch and care for the newborn
Spina bifida is the neural tube defect and it is also congenital disorder. Hence parent will have lot of anxiety and stress. Nurses should be sensitive to their emotions. Encourage them to express their feelings. Encourage the parents to cuddle, touch and care the newborn by following proper precautions for the newborn safety.
