1.) What type of production animal is a herbivore and a hindgut fermenter?

2.) In production animals what type of nutrient is the primary energy source?

3.) Which nutrient in production animals is the most expensive and builds body tissue and muscle?

4.) What types of feeds are referred to as concentrates?

5.) What type of feedstuffs contain pastures, silage, and hay?

6.) What type of production animal will need supplementation throughout life with Phosphorus, calcium, and iron?

Solutions

Expert Solution

1. Herbivores are animals that eat plants and other autotrophs (organisms that can produce their own food through light, water, or chemicals like carbon dioxide). Teir primary food is based on plants.these animals include deer, some bird species, caterpillars ans so on.

Hindgut fermenters include horses and rhinos as wellas small animals like rodents, rabbits, and koalas. Hindgut fermenters have a sshorter passage time ( for the food to digest) the products of fermentation are volatile fatty acids. it is important to supply a source of fibre in their diet since it stimulates peristalsis in the gut and prevents a build up of gas.

2. The type of nutrient or the primary source of energy for animals is carbohydrates primarly glucose which is called as the body's fuel. These digestible carbohydrates are converted to glucose molecules and into energy through catabolic chemical reactions.

3.protien is the most expensive ingredient in their feed. there are crude proteins ( the total amount of proteinsin a feed) while digestible protein is the protein that can be digested and used by an animal. carbohydrates provids the main source of energy for activities the body does.it repairs the tissues and organs like musles .

4. concentrates refers to  animal feeds that are rich in energy and\or protein but low in fiber . For example: corn, soyabean, oats, wheats. they have a high content of cereal grains, mixes that have only grain are called concentrate.

5. The type of feedstuffs that contain pastures, silages, and hays are are Roughages. roughages are given to horses becaus thispromotes their well-being and intestinal health. these roughags has a high concentration of slowly degradable fiber.

6. Animals that needs suppliments like phosphorus, calcium and iron are :

suckling pigs: needs iron because they frequently become anemic  and they become pale and weak , show forceful breathing and may die. So Iron is given .

Phosphorus and calcium: Cattles most frequently suffer from phosphorus deficiency and causes decreased milk production, reproductive disturbances. pigs suffer from calcium deficiency

A well-mixed fermenter contains cells initially at concentration x0. A sterile feed enters the fermenter with volumetric flow rate F; fermentation broth leaves at the same rate.
