How can a nongovernmental organization use the 10 essential public health services in public health emergency disaster preparedness
Disaster preparedness means measures taken to prepare for an emergency and how to reduce the effect of disaster on the public .
NGO's are an non profitable , voluntary organisations which are involved in certain societal and developmental issues.
The use of essential public health services by the NGO's for disaster preparedness:-
NGO's play a vital role in identifying the problems of public as they have a good relation and links with the grassroot communities which will help in the easy coordination and strengthen the capacity of the stakeholders to improve disaster preparedness.
1. Provide information ,empower the public and educate them about the health hazards and how to get prepare for that in future and where to approach for the services.
2. Ensure all the resources are ready to be used in an emergency and can be easily mobilized from one place to another.
3. Organize health education programs on disaster management for the people to make them aware of how to tackle the situation .
4.Provision of simulation programs means they provide a dummy exposure of disaster to know how people will react and how efficiently they respond to it.
5. NGO's provide shelter and sanitation facilities for the public to be used on emergency situations.
6. Analysis of disaster prone geographical areas and shifting of people to safe health camps or other rehabilitation centers.
7.Educating public about the rescue bag ,what all things to be put in it so,that it can be used in a disaster.
8.Training of the staff and building there capacity to deal with an emergency situation.
9. Assessment of the quality,effectiveness, feasibility of the health services to be provided in a emergency condition.
10. Organising a communication mechanism which will help the public to communicate in emergency .
