3. Consider the following concerning use of single electron tunneling devices at room temperature:
a. The charging energy needs to be larger than the thermal energy (kT). Calculate the minimum capacitance needed to meet this criteria for a single electron.
b. Based on this, calculate the area of a capacitor with this capacitance assuming a that the relative dielectric constant is 10 and the distance between capacitor plates (d) is 1 nm.
c. Given current lithographic techniques (may require a bit of research on your part) would it be realistic to make capacitors this small for room temperature operation of SETs?
