¤Nominal ¤Is THIS different than THAT? ¤Ordinal ¤Is THIS bigger than THAT? ¤Interval ¤What are the QUANTITATIVE differences? ¤Ratio ¤How many time bigger is THIS from THAT? Provide three health care-focused examples of each type of variable: Nominal, Ordinal, Interval, Ratio.
These are the scales used for statistical measurements,. They are used to categorize the variables.
These are of four types:-
1. Nominal - these are used to represent a variable which is non -numerical , they are just the headings or names. Three health focused examples are:-
Gender -male ,female
Hair colour-black,brown, grey etc
Blood group-A,B,Ab,O
2.Ordinal - It uses ranking for representing the variables . It is used typically for non numerical concepts. Three health focused examples are:-
How do you feel today- ok,good ,better, very good
Linker scale -strongly disagree,disagree,neutral,agree,strongly agree.
Severity of pain -mild,moderate, severe
3.Interval - It is the scale which not only tells about the order but also the difference between the variables, but does not provide a true zero value.Three health focused examples are:-
Temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius
IQ of a patient
Time
4. Ratio- this is the ultimate scale which provides order, interval between value of variable, and ratio . It is able to provide a true zero . Three health focused examples are:-
Height
Weight
Age .
