I used to see many commercials about sunscreen when I was growing up and now I hardly ever see them. Why do you think that is?

Sunscreen

Cream or lotions , to be spread on the skin, containing organic compounds that absorb, and or Titanium dioxide that reflects the sun's Ultraviolet radiation is called a Sunscreen cream/ lotion. Many advertisements and commercials were there in the Television regarding different company's sunscreen products , until recent years. Now one can see such type commercials very rarely.

There were many controversial arguments were existing regarding the use of Sunscreen protection. Even though sunscreen protects the skin from Ultraviolet rays, that causes skin cancers like Melanomas and other skin cancers, these sunscreen prroducts may be harmful based on the chemicals added to it as ingredients. Many researches were going on about the harmful effects of Sunscreens.In the early months of last year, FDA ( Food and Drug Administration ) , US, banned 14 chemicals, that used to add for making the Sunscreen as it is found that these chemicals were harmful to human body. Even FDA banned some companies also from making the Sunscreen. European Commission also has banned the same chemicals as a result of research.

Many researches on sunscreen chemicals discovered that, the filters in sunscreen such as Oxybenzone, can absorb into tissues and even to the blood. It may cause deleterious effect on endocrine system and can cause hormonal disruption and even it affects the tissues of uterus or male genitalia and sperm production.

Researches are going on still to understand these chemicals role on Vitamin D and Nitric oxide production, that found  to stimulate by sunlight exposure. Many chemicals add for making sunscreen lotion and cream may cause other types of cancers in humans. So many companies that make the Sunscreen from these chemicals got banned as these chemicals now are outside of GRASE category , Generally Accepted As Safe and Effective) of chemicals / drugs.

So this is the reason that we see very few advertisements on sunscreen products.
