Dabe is a 4 week old breastfed Male infant born at 39 weeks gestation by normal vaginal delivery. Mam states she is breastfeeding on demand about every 2 to 3 hours.

3....what safety teaching is appropriate for the nurse to provide to Gabe patients remember anticipate guidance.

1.After birth two vaccines are mandatory before discharge from hospital namely OPV and Hepatitis B.In certain countries BCG is also mandatory fir a new born. Here Gabe is behind and needs to be administered these immunization.

2. The newborn will loose weight in the first few days(5_7 day) or in less than two weeks they again gain weight this baby has gained weight in a week which is normal.This weight is appropriate for the week.

3.The following safety teaching are required

  • Proper breast feeding every two to three hours or as demand feeds
  • Change wet panties
  • Swaddle the baby
  • After feeding,ensure the baby is burped
  • Do not leave the newborn alone
  • Cord care
  • Exposure of baby to sunlight in the morning for 10_20 minutes
  • Report in case of any abnormality
