1. What is the name of the selective medium used to generate monoclonal antibodies?
a.
2. Before an adipose cell becomes an adipose cell, what type of cell does it resemble?
a.
3. Which form of adipose tissue has the primary function of generating heat?
a.
4. What is the name of the type of cell that produces a monoclonal antibody?
a.
5. What type of cell is also known as a “helper cell?”
a.
1.The selective culture medium is called HAT medium because it contains hypoxanthine, aminopterin and thymidine. This medium is selective for fused hybridoma cells.
Monoclonal antibodies are produced by introducing an antigen to a mouse and then fusing polyclonal B cells from the mouse's spleen to myeloma cells. The resulting hybridoma cells are cultured and continue to produce antibodies to the antigens.
2. Adipose cell also called adipocytes or fat cells are connective tissue cell specialized to synthesise and contain large globules of fat. The chief chemical constituents of adipose fat are triglycerides, which are esters made up of glycerol and one or more fatty acids such as stearic, oleic or palmic acids. The fat stored in adipose tissue come from dietary fats or is produced in the body.
3. The two types of adipose tissue are white adipose tissue (WAT) which stores energy and Brown adipose tissue (BAT) which generates heat.
4. Hybridoma cells manufacturer the specific monoclonal antibody that was originally produced by the B lymphocytes cells. The original B Lymphocytes cell will produce the Monoclonal antibody depending on the kind of antigen that was injected into the mouse just prior to the harvesting of B lymphocytes cells.
5.The T Helper cells have CD4 markers on their surface. They are a special subpopulation of CD4 cells. They are also called as Helper cells and Helper T cells. They play an important role in immune system, particularly in the adaptive immune system. They help the activity of other immune cells by releasing T cell cytokines. These cells help suppress or regulate immune responses.
