Roger Miller, our textbook author, makes this statement, “From the economist’s point of view the term needs is objectively indefinable." Your instructor disagrees. The fact that we talk about poverty and unemployment rates in economics would contradict Miller's statement.
Food, shelter and clothing are considered basic needs. But what is needed to live in Southeastern Michigan in the 21st Century? For example, would you consider a car to be a necessity?
In 21st century Michigan’s economy went under a transformation.
The technological enthusiasm, development of automobile industries,
engineering know how, etc., increase sat that time. The
transportation era was introduced at that time and mass production
of automobiles was a far reaching development for the region.
People switched from public transports to affordable private
vehicles.
Yes, car became a necessity of Michigan in 21st century. Automobile
industry became major industry of the region and affected the socio
economic lives of the citizens of South eastern Michigan as well as
much of the world. The industry created more and more employment
which also attracted the immigrants from many countries. As a
result of increasing demand of affordable automobiles, the bulk
production of private vehicles like cars was created, which needed
more jobs which created more employment in the economy. On a whole
the transformation and evolution of the automobile sector and
technology sector of the region resulted in benefit of the
economy.
