Phyllis Malcom, a 32-year-old patient, is admitted to the burns unit after having full-thickness burns of the face, arms, chest, and abdomen. The patient was driving home with a can of gasoline in the back seat floorboards to use in the lawnmower when she lit a cigarette and the fumes led to an explosion. The patient was brought to the burn unit for treatment.

Goals of burn care is- control the pain,remove dead tissue, prevent infection. reduce scaring, regain function and address emotional needs by the appropriate first aid and would assignment give proper treatment, proper medication , wound dressing, therapy and surgery. 2 role of nurse during the management of wound are providing 1. First aid- aim of first aid is stop burning process , cool the burn by running or tepid water for at least 20 minutes.temprature is around 15 degrees Celsius it's reduce vasoconstriction and oedema.provide pain relief and cover injury.2. take proper history for proper management to know mechanism of burn injury.3 assessment of depth of wound- it is determining by the thickness of skin.skin thickness depend on patient age. 4 assessment of total body surface area- using Wallace rules of nines.it is quick and simple to use.5. cleaning and debridement of wound- initially wound washing with soap and water than remove dead skin and tissue.first 48 hours wound is in a dynamic state 6. Dressing- a proper antimicrobial dressing done because mostly gram positive bacteria colony formation in wound surface.7 scar management- by first line is massage and moisturizing if not sufficient than apply silicone gel it's flatting the scar if no sufficient than apply pressure garment.
