It was one of the experiences of the most memorable encounter during emergency transport. When I arrived on the scene, an unresponsive elder patient was there who are experiencing respiratory distress, diaphoresis, and oxygen saturation less than 93%. My partner and I administered 10 liters of oxygen to stabilized him. Soon after that, the patient was transferred to the ambulance, she started vomiting. To prevent aspiration and patency of the airway, we had done suctioning of mouth and nose. we were headed to the Brookdale hospital which is the number 1 traumatic center. When we reached there the emergency department triaged was blocked due to high in a pandemic. So I have to take the stretcher alone for the patient to transfer to the emergency department. It was very overwhelming by seeing the line in the emergency department but I keep in mind that the person may be someone father, grandfather, a brother or a dad, a husband, so I focused on my patient to save his life. Suddenly we meet the triaged team which includes nurse, PA, attendant. They explained that due to the current pandemic they don't have enough beds for other patients because of diversion into an isolation room. Our patient was quickly assessed by the PA and informed of the need for intubation. As the adult ICU is occupied by COVID patient, the patient was transferred to the pediatric ICU, and intubation was done by the PA and his supervising staff, I also helped by cutting the clothes of the patient. The PA used an intraosseous drill to insert the needle and port into the hip. It was very interesting to watched and the PA told me to differentiate the blood sample vial needed for blood testing. It was motivated to see the teamwork of the staff working in emergency department and i want to learn more. The PA was the perfect profession according to me as he was responding to the emergency situation very well and save the life of the patient.
