These transporters are temporarily phosphorylated during transport.
Select one:
a. P-type ATPases
b. more than one of these answers is correct
c. ABC transporters
d. F-type ATPases
e. V-type ATPases
Answer: The correct option is a, P-type ATPase. P-ATPase has a simple polypeptide composition and are phosphorylated during catalysis. Examples are Na+ K+-ATPase of the plasma membrane of animal cells, H+-ATPase of the plasma membrane of fungi and plants, and Ca+2 -ATPase of the sarcoplasmic reticulum.
Option b is incorrect as only one option is correct.
The option c ABC transporters is incorrect, as ABC transporters constitute a family of ATP dependent transporters that pump wide range of molecules like ions, sugars, and amino acids and these transporters utilize energy derived from hydrolysis of ATP. Example- Multidrug resistance transporter.
The option d F-type ATPases is incorrect, as no phosphorylation intermediate is formed during the reaction mechanism. F-ATPase has a complex polypeptide composition and these are found in non-photosynthetic eukaryotes are found on the inner membrane of mitochondria, whereas in green plants and algae, these are found in mitochondria as well as on thylakoid membrane of chloroplasts.
The option e V-type ATPases is incorrect, these are also not phosphorylated during catalysis just like F-type. these are found on the membrane within the cells (endomembranes), including membrane from vacuoles.
