Briefly explain what is meant by IoT, and how IPv6 is important for its success.
The Internet of Things ( IoT) is a collection of interrelated computing devices , mechanical and digital machines with unique identifiers (UIDs) and the ability to transmit data across a network without needing contact between people and computers
IPv6 's primary purpose is to enable the development of more specific TCP / IP address identifiers, now that we have run out of the 4.3 billion IPv4 created. That is one of the main reasons why IPv6 for the Internet of Things ( IoT) is such an important innovation. Internet-connected devices are becoming increasingly prevalent, and although IPv4 addresses have been unable to satisfy the demand for IoT products, IPv6 provides IoT products with a network for very long time to run on.
Organizations and individuals have heard of the actual and immediate danger hackers face over the past few years, but the IoT sets out a whole new field of defense intricacy. Breaking a safe network and stealing millions of credit card numbers is awful but if someone with bad motives are breaking into a smart city, or a smart housing community, the result might be even more devastating. You can see why IoT security is really important and the good news is that IPv6 provides stronger security options than its predecessor, due to IPSec in large part.
IPv6 also allows more efficient settlement of the names. The Secure Neighbor Discovery (SEND) protocol is capable of allowing cryptographic authentication at the time of communication that a host is who it claims to be. This makes it more difficult to sabotage the Address Resolution Protocol ( ARP), among other naming-based attacks. And while IPv6 is not a substitute for application or service layer authentication, it also provides an enhanced degree of confidence in connections
